Nā Moku Hoʻomau ("The Enduring Islands") is a mixed-media installation celebrating the enduring stories, landscapes, and cultural heritage of the Hawaiian Islands, made for Outrigger Kauaʻi Beach Resort. Each island is handcrafted entirely from marine debris collected along Hawaiʻi's shorelines, transforming discarded plastics into works that honor both the beauty of these places and the responsibility we share in caring for them.

Each sculpture is thoughtfully designed to reflect the unique geography and climate of its island. Prominent mountain ranges rise from the surface in three dimensions, while the colors of the collected plastics mirror Hawaiʻi's diverse landscapes; the lighter tones represent the dry leeward regions and deeper greens and are placed in areas of lush windward forests.

Weaved into each individual island by island color are the moʻolelo, wahi pana, and cultural history unique to each island. The collection invites viewers to explore Hawaiʻi through a lens of stewardship, resilience, and connection. By pairing ancestral stories with the realities of modern marine pollution, Nā Moku Hoʻomau seeks to inspire a deeper appreciation for the islands and a renewed commitment to protecting them for future generations.
