Perpetual State of Bloom
2024
Intricately arranged typography and design made of found ocean plastic, nets, and ropes removed from Kaua’i beaches on 36x48" cotton canvas.
This phrase is borrowed from a line in one of writer Beau Flemister’s Surfing articles about the North Shore of Oahu. As a surfer and a writer, I have always been inspired by Flemister’s work- how his prose is conversational and inviting, but also thoughtful and intentional. I always hoped to somehow reflect that balance in something I create, whether with words or images.
Finding the “right” shaped ocean plastic to fit an image is always difficult, but finding the right shapes, curves, and edges to form letters of a font is a true challenge!
