Law of Attraction is composed entirely of ocean plastics gathered from Kauaʻi’s shores and mounted onto 12x24" canvas. Uncut and unaltered, each piece was arranged by hand into a flowing gradient of color, moving from yellow to deep red and back again.
The design features two forms drifting toward each other- at their closest point, the red is most concentrated. I chose red to evoke the emotional warmth of connection, and how nearness -physical or emotional- can intensify feeling. The farther the forms are from each other, the more that warmth fades.
Though the material comes from ocean pollution, the piece speaks to connection- how even what’s been cast off can shape our lives. It’s a reflection on longing, proximity, and how we carry what we leave behind.
